Key Ingredients

Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the page for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

Ingredients for George Foreman Grill Burgers labeled.
  • Chicken: I used Springer Mountain Farms ground white meat chicken for this recipe. They never add hormones or antibiotics, and they feed their chickens a diet free of any animal by-products.
  • Seasonings: Garlic powder, Italian seasoning and paprika are the perfect blend. It gives you a fresh taste with a pinch of paprika kick at the end. Perfect for all George Foreman burger recipes.
  • Oil: I prefer Costabile olive oil for its quality, purity, and flavor. Use Code: 15GOLDENGK on Amazon for 15% off.

Variations

  • Other Protein: This recipe works great with beef or turkey! If you are going with hamburgers make sure to follow the instructions for medium rare. Turkey and chicken burgers should be fully cooked.
  • Add Cheese: burger patties are always better with cheese on top! Add your favorite slice at the end of cooking and leave the lid open for a perfect melt.
  • Toppings: Go past the basics of lettuce and tomato. You can see I used bacon and it was a perfect touch. Grilled onions, avocado, my Keto Air Fryer Mushrooms, and even a fried egg are all amazing ways to fancy up a George Foreman grill hamburger.

How to Make George Foreman Burgers

Ground chicken burger mix in a black bowl.

Step 1. Place the ground meat, chicken, turkey, or beef into a large bowl. Then add the salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, minced onion, thyme, paprika, and black pepper. Mix everything together real well.

Step 2. Preheat the George Foreman grill. While it is heating, measure out the ground meat into four sections. I like to use a food scale to make sure they are all the same size. Form them into hamburger patties and make a small dent in the center.

Step 3. Then, using a pastry brush, brush some olive oil onto the grill plates and onto the top of the ground meat. Place the patties oiled side down onto the grill ensuring that they are slightly spaced apart.

Step 4. Close the lid to the grill and cook them for 3 ½ to 5 minutes. There is no need to flip them, however, you can always flip them halfway if you’d like. The internal temperature to look for should be: 160°F for beef, 165°F for chicken or 165°F for turkey.

Step 5. Once your ground meat reaches the desired internal level temperature, remove them from the grill and allow them to rest for two minutes before assembling and serving.

Expert Tips

  • Use a Thermometer: I always use a meat thermometer when in the kitchen. It is key for cooking with poultry and to make sure you cook burgers to perfect temp.
  • Drain the Excess Fat: The drip tray is perfect for this but sometimes the fat can pool up. A quick paper towel and fresh oil will fix that right up.
  • Close the Lid: Keeping the lid closed on both sides of the burger helps it cook faster and keeps the juices insides your meat. This is key for moist patties.

George Foreman Grill Hamburgers FAQs

How long should you cook burgers in a George Foreman Grill?

I recommend cooking them between 3 to 5 minutes. It is best to wait until you see the green light on the grill. That is how you know it is properly preheated. You should start to see clear liquid when they are ready to be taken off. Use a meat thermometer to help you!

Why did my burger patties get black while cooking?

Leftover meat and grease can start to burn and that will cook into fresh meat when making multiple hamburgers. It is best to use a paper towel to wipe off the grill plate and then apply a touch of fresh oil before putting new meat down. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Why is food sticking to my George Foreman Grill?

This is likely because you are not using enough oil. Oil forms a thin layer between the food and the grill, preventing direct contact with the hot surface. This allows your food to be removed easily.

Can you grill frozen burgers?

Yes, but I do not recommend it. Using a frozen burger will make the outside cook faster than the inside and that could leave your patties raw on the inside. It is best to let the meat thaw before cooking.

Equipment

  • 1 George Foreman Grill
  • 1 Pastry Brush
  • 1 Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound springer mountain farms ground chicken OR ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika regular or smoked
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Instructions

  • Place the ground meat, chicken, turkey, or beef into a large bowl. Then add the salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, minced onion, thyme, paprika, and black pepper. Mix everything together real well.
  • Preheat the George Foreman grill. While it is heating, measure out the ground meat into four sections. I like to use a food scale to make sure they are all the same size. Form them into hamburger patties and make a small dent in the center.

  • Once your ground meat reaches the desired internal level temperature, remove them from the grill and allow them to rest for two minutes before assembling and serving.

Notes

Storage
  • Refrigerate for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
  • Wrap individual burgers in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months in an airtight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag.
  • Defrost overnight if frozen. Then, microwave the bugers at 1-minute intervals until heated through.
Tips
  • Mixing your burgers by hand ensures you don't overwork them. I like to use these Nitrile gloves to keep my hands clean and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Mix your ingredients until everything is well combined, but be careful not to overmix. Overworking the meat causes the proteins to contract as they cook, squeezing out the juice and resulting in dry burgers.
  • Be sure you create a depression in the center of the burgers. This keeps them from shrinking too much.
  • Brush your grill grate with olive oil to prevent sticking while the burgers cook.
  • Your burgers will release some juice as they cook. That's okay and completely unavoidable.
  • Grill the burgers with the lid closed. This retains the heat and keeps the burgers juicy.
