The inspiration for this classic cobb actually comes from a dear connection in my home state of Florida. For those that don't know, the salad originated in the 1930's and was created at the Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood as a way to use up the day's leftovers. Now, the original restaurant is gone, but, it inspired Disney World to recreate the menu at Hollywood Studios. It was at that restaurant I found the inspiration for this strawberry chicken cobb salad. Every time I make it, I’m reminded of the classic atmosphere, the feeling of sitting somewhere special and having a simple salad becoming something unforgettable.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Simple Ingredients: This easy strawberry cobb salad is full of healthy and easy to source ingredients.
  • Healthy: This is a light, flavorful salad with a zesty vinaigrette dressing, so it has tons of flavor without heavy, unhealthy ingredients like calorie-dense dressings. It also has a high level of protein.
  • Easy to Customize: This is a great side dish or light lunch. Its bright flavors make it perfect with spicy meals like these Hot Honey Chicken Tenders.

Ingredients

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

Strawberry Cobb Salad ingredients labeled.
  • Chicken Tenders: I used Springer Mountain Chicken Strips for the chicken in this sald. They cook up quickly in the air-fryer and are so crispy. I enjoy the brand because it is American Humane Certified, while free of hormones and antibiotics.
  • Fresh Strawberries: The star of this salad! Pick ones with bright green leaves on top for the best flavor.
  • Toppings: Boiled eggs, crispy bacon and avocado are all big parts of this dish. Adjust as needed for your picky eaters. Use salt and pepper to taste.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"This salad is always a classic! I love the bacon and those tenders are such an easy way to get some extra protein!"
- Andy S.

Flavor Variations

  • Add Cheese: Feta and Blue Cheese are two common salad toppers. Mix these in for a creamy texture in your strawberry cobb salad recipe.
  • Use a Homemade Dressing: I love to mix vinegar and olive oil together for a homemade dressing. Add in some Italian seasoning and lemon juice for a fresh pop of flavor. Shake in a jar to mix with ease.
  • Add Other Veggies: Add some fresh cucumber to amplify this salad. They are great when added with basil and strawberries for an extra touch of summer. A garlic dressing also works well.

How to Make Strawberry Cobb Salad

Expert Tips

  • Add Dressing Slowly: Start small. You can always add more, but too much dressing turns this cobb salad platter soggy fast.
  • Use a “Fat + Acid” dressing formula: This is usually in the form of an oil base (fat) and vigegar or citrus (acid) top. Add mustard or black pepper for a pop of flavor.
  • Build Texture: A good salad isn’t just soft leaves. Aim for lots of individual ingredients with a contrast of crunch and snap.

What is in a classic Cobb salad?

The main ingredients are chopped greens (romaine lettuce), bacon, chicken breast, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, tomatoes, blue cheese, and a vinaigrette dressing.

I like to squeeze fresh lemon juice on top of them when storing. You can also leave the pit in one side and seal it before putting in the refrigerator.

Can I make it ahead of time?

Yes! Keep all the ingredients in separate airtight containers in the fridge and combine only when ready to eat. Make sure to add dressing just before serving to prevent wilting.

What is the best dressing?

The classic dressing is a mustard vinaigrette made with red wine vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and sometimes Worcestershire sauce. You can you whichever is your favorite.
